We run classes + social during the week, plus once a month we run this extremely popular beginners fast track session for Modern Jive, using the intensive Jive Nation methods for fast-tracking beginners up to a confident level in one day. I get asked a lot of questions and have tried to summarise some of them here: 1. Can I come alone? Is everyone coming as a couple?A lot of people come along solo we try to keep the numbers of men and women roughly balanced, so please let us know if you have invited a friend! You will meet everyone very quickly the group size on the Beginners Workshop (one a month)is usually about 5 men and 5 women, and we change dance partners every 5 minutes or so. For the evening classes, the numbers can range from 30 up to 80 on any given night. 2. What is Modern Jive? You will be learning Modern Jive using the Jive Nation method we focus on modern music and sophisticated but simple partner dance moves it's almost always to 4/4 time pop music. This is NOT ballroom jive, or old style rock'n'roll its a simple, smooth modern version of all the best parts, simple and fun to learn. THE Jive Nation METHOD is about total immersion and MASSIVE amounts of quality repetition during the 4 hour beginners intensive course, preferably FOLLOWED BY a 6 week UNLIMITED evening pass to cement your skills, build your confidence AND meet loads of wonderful people.
3. What are the upgrade pass options? The Saturday Beginners Intensive course basic package is £50 per person (with free repeats each month after that). From there you can choose to add a beginners DVD with over 40 moves PLUS you can upgrade to a 6 week evening class pass.
4. What is the 6 week UNLIMTED pass you offer? The 6 week unlimited class pass is AMAZING value and give you access to every class night we run mid week (see www.jivenation.co.uk for venue listings) and you can attend as many of these nights as you like, for free There is ALSO a 6 x VISIT casual pass that has a much longer time span, for those of you who cant attend week night classes each week you can spread out your visits over time, pick and choose to suit your own timetable.
5. What should I wear?TO the day sessions, usually something such as: Jeans / shorts / casual dress / t shirt / anything goes its a practice workshop and fun / physical. For the evening classes, people often come straight from work, or throw on a pair of jeans and a favourite shirt. 6. What shoes do I need?Personally I try to go for smooth soled trainers or leather soled work shoes I like to keep it simple. After a few months, if you are TOTALLY loving it (you will!) then maybe look at investing in a nice pair of dance shoes from one of the London dedicated stores, or the online dance shoe sellers ask me if you want some recommendations. 7. What are the costs and savings for the pass options?
£8 - Casual evening pass (class and freestyle social ) 8. Can I repeat the beginners course?YES! Its free to repeat and all you have to do is email the office@jivenation.co.uk to let me know how many men / women are repeating, so I can try to balance numbers just write! 9. Do we change partners in the course?Yes, we change partners every 4 or 5 minutes this is the fastest way to get everyone up to speed, PLUS you get to meet so many more fabulous people. 10. How often is the beginners intensive Saturday session held?Currently we run it one Saturday each month check the www.jivenation.co.uk website for dates and updates 11. Should I bring food or drink?Ill provide some bottled water and crisps, but 4 hours is a marathon, so make sure you have lunch before hand, and maybe bring along some extra snacks!12. What if I've never done ANY kind of dancing before?Jump in my friends, feet first, and i will teach you, and you will fly through with confidence. Get along!13. What if I am late on the day?Don't fret I can help you catch up if you miss the first half hour or so plus its free to repeat.14. Can I invite a friend? Please do! They can pay on the day but its preferable to just email me so I know how many people to expect!15. What will I learn? The rhythm and basic footwork for a 4/4 modern jive, to upbeat modern pop music plus about 15 to 20 moves and links to put together and MASTER several fun and fabulous dance routines with all the partners in the room. It's a HUGE confidence builder just go for it!16. I've danced a bit - Is it the same as Salsa or Ballroom or Ceroc?Similar elements about leading and following but the timing of Jive Nation modern jive is different to all of these we use a 4/4 box step repeating pattern - its as simple as you can make it we don't use ballroom jive triple steps, and we don't use the salsa footwork count, and we don't use the UK Ceroc single backstep ours is simpler than all of that. You will love it. Ceroc London have venues at Fulham, ISH International Student House, Clapham Wessex House, and freestyle at Hammersmith. Theer are also several London Salsa organisations we like to support and visit when we have a night off. We love the Latin Collective, as well as Salsateca and especially Bar Salsa. Lamabada or Forro (foro) is also fun, although quite different from Modern Jive Leroc Ceroc etc, plus Londonsalsa, Streetbeat and Mambocity, salsamachine machine, salsagold, wow there are just so many good ones, also Bachata and reggaeton, and sometimes a bit of Zumba, although its not partner dancing as such. Salsa Fusion and Salsa Explosion run some fun events. If you love premiere latin and ballroom, we would generally say to try Karen Hardy Studios or Mr Wonderful Ballroom17. What sort of music will we be dancing to?I like to keep it very modern top 40 chart and pop. For the technically minded, beginners will be dancing at 115 beats per minute. Intermediates dancing at 128 BPM, and advanced dancers ranging from 105BPM up to 155BPM but generally centred around 128 BPM10 weeks Modern Jive fast track beginners course. 8pm at Little Venice Sports (nr Edgware rd Tube). This covers ten weeks of classes at just £80 per person - learn to dance forever!Learn to dance in a day, learn to dance in 1 day |

Sunday Laze and Friday Freestylers Party NightsThis fabulous new concept will get you out for a wonderful night on the town. We choose great venues for you to maximise the fun. It's the ultimate nightclub party, with a difference ? Unlike dark regular nightclubs, at Freestylers you are never alone, never dancing solo, never sitting still! Everyone meets everyone else, and there are no social barriers to climb over. Hundreds and hundreds of dance partners whirling, twirling, laughing, jiving and partying. A Friday Freestylers is usually from from 8pm Friday night, through until 2.00am! A Sunday Laze if usually from 2pm until 10pm. How does it work?Well, there is a good chance your grandfather knew all about the fabulous fun and social lubricant that was found in jive dancing and then the secret was lost for a few generations.. and people became strangers to one another - and forgot how to ask someone to dance but now its back, big time, as a revolution in Nightclub Jive. 1. The Intro class to Nightclub Jive begins at 8.30pm for Freestylers (throughout the afternoon for Sunday Laze) - don't miss this if you are a first timer! You will learn some great basics of positions, holds, and a bag full of tricks and moves to get you started - and then you will be able to dance the whole night away, with 20, 30, 50 or more partners (depends on your staying power ;-) ) who are all there to dance with you 2. Freestyle Games, competitions and prizes - throughout the night there are a number of great dance floor games to keep you jiving, to keep you partner swapping, and this is all run smoothly by our MC. There are prizes and giveaways for the most enthusiastic, smooth, flashy or brave new dancers, and this gets the whole place really humming. 3. A great line up of non stop music hits, giving you a thoroughly danceable and juicylicious freestyle all night long 4. Freestylers Close and Risquι - 11.00pm, the late night Dirty Dancing session with super sexy Susie K, as she takes you through a few of the raunchier possibilities - naughty but nice 5. On Fridays, it's non stop til 2am, this is the greatest night in town, as you reclaim your place amongst the connected, energised, social crowd - no more nightclubs with lonely people in a sea of lonely people, this is the new phenomenon of Nightclub Jive TOP TIPS!Guys, you are going to work like you have never worked before, so bring a spare shirt, and a can of spray, plus fresh mints! Ladies, wear comfortable low heeled dance shoes, or smooth soled shoes, as these gents are going to keep you on your toes all evening long Sunday Laze is at Zulus, where we have beach volleyball, bring your shorts! Don't know how to dance? Don't fret - get there in time for the introductory Nightclub Jive class, and better yet, come to the Tuesday and Wednesday intro classes in Central London for a quick brush up on the moves and techniques. WHAT IS NIGHTCLUB JIVE?It's a form of Modern Jive, minus the bounce, smoother in frame like West Coast Swing - but uses a simple 4/4 box step (timing is most like Merengue) With this simple structure, so easy to learn and master, you can then build on beautiful, fun, flowing sequences of moves, until you are confident enough to go for the holy grail of Nightclub Jive: FREESTYLING! WHAT IS FREESTYLING?
Freestyling for ladies is about knowing the basics, so that you forget about the moves, and start to enjoy the thrill of being led beautifully, to great music. Ladies have to concentrate on mastering the perfect handhold (strong fingers, half open hand, no thumbs, no claw grip) and the perfect tension / resistance in the arms (never fully extend the arm, keep it slightly bent), and then enjoying dance after dance after dance with these fine gentlemen. MOST IMPORTANTLY: you can ask anyone to dance for each new song, and they will say YES! You don't even have to know one another's name before hand ? just introduce yourself, and say the magic words: "Shall we Dance?" Ladies can ask guys as well, and never have to sit out and wait to be invited.
